Elizabeth
Acrylic on Canvas 30x40
This painting was inspired by the story of Elizabeth from the New Testament. She was the wife of Zacharias, a priest, and at the time of the stories telling she is elderly, with no children, as she was for her whole life, unable to conceive a child.
As Zacharias was burning incense in the temple, the angel of the Lord appeared to him and told him he would have a child that would go ahead of, and prepare the way of the Lord.
I painted this at a women’s conference in 2021. Elizabeth is dancing before the Lord as she is radiantly pregnant and ready to conceive John the Baptist. She had suffered the shame of being childless and now she has been given grace, strength and miracle power to conceive and give birth. Her joy knew no end and I wanted to display her joy!
“After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.” Luke 1:24-25
“As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:44-45
